A game of power speed stamina and skill

Field Hockey
Field hockey is the oldest known “ball-and-stick game”. It is believed to date back to the earliest civilizations. There is no evidence of exactly how and where the game began. It is known as field hockey so that it can be told apart from ice hockey.

Modern field hockey developed in Britain in the 19th century. Field hockey is now played all over the world both males and females can play. It is recognized as the second largest team sport in the world, right behind soccer.

The game is played between two teams, each with 11 players on the field. Ten are field players and 1 is a goalie. There is Defense, Offense, and Midfield (in between both). Each goal is worth one point. You are only allowed to use your sticks to touch the ball, except for the goalie. Field players can only use the flat side of their stick.

The whistle will be blown and the other team will automatically receive the ball for a “free hit” if the person playing the ball raises their stick above their shoulders, if the ball is hit and goes above the knees it is considered dangerous, if you hit another person’s stick or if you block the ball with your body.
Field players equipment consists of a stick, shin guards, a mouth guard and a uniform. Men's uniforms are shorts with a shirt while women’s are a skirt with a shirt. The game is played with a very hard ball so goalies equipment consists of light foam pads to protect them. And foam padded shoes to wear over their shoes. Gloves, helmet, chest protector padded pants and a jersey.
